Be our Volunteer Warm Line Operator

We are seeking...

passionate and empathetic individuals to join our Peer Support Warmline team. As a Warmline Operator, you will provide emotional support, information, and referrals to Chinese Americans and Chinese immigrants experiencing mental health challenges. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the mental health field while making a meaningful impact on our community.

Position Title: Peer Support Warmline Operator


Hours: Minimum of 5 hours per week



Responsibilities

  • Answer calls from individuals seeking support, providing a listening ear and empathetic responses.
  • Offer emotional support and share experiences to help callers feel understood and less isolated.
  • Provide information on mental health resources and referrals to appropriate services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions.
  • Participate in training sessions and ongoing supervision.


Commitment

  • Shift: Minimum of one 4-hour shift per week. Shifts are available from 9 am to 1 pm, 1 pm to 5 pm, and 5 pm to 9 pm (Pacific Time). We will try our best to accommodate your schedule.
  • Meetings: Attendance at bi-weekly warmline team huddles.


Qualifications

  • Lived Experience: Applicants should have lived experience with mental illness OR have cared for family members with mental illness.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and/or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) is required.
  • Communication Skills: Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to provide compassionate and non-judgmental support.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by Chinese American and Chinese immigrant communities.
  • Reliability: Ability to commit to a regular schedule and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Education: Current enrollment in a related academic program (e.g., psychology, social work, counseling) preferred.
