Why MHACC?

  • About MHACC

Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities (MHACC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise awareness of mental health within the Chinese community through education, support, and advocacy to service the Chinese families and individuals affected by mental illness, and to help them develop meaningful and productive lives.

  • Outstanding Contributions

Language barriers and certain traditions have kept many mentally ill Chinese individuals from seeking help in a timely and effective manner.  MHACC has routinely visited mental hospitals and clinics to offer help to numerous communities in need.

Our contributions have been recognized by local and overseas media such as World Journal, China Daily, Sing Tao US, US-China Press, Chinese Radio, VICE, and KTSF television station.

MHACC has held more than 100 educational workshops with lectures given by Chinese-speaking psychiatrists and psychologists. We have also developed the first Chinese mental health website and held inclusive, online support groups.  MHACC’s organized efforts have reached over 10,000 individuals.

All of our services are available in both Mandarin and Cantonese. We are dedicated to connecting families dealing with mental illness to educational tools and possible treatments so they can live meaningful and happy lives.

  • Our Recognition

We provide a free, bilingual warm-line providing support to people in crisis. We've helped more than 600 families total.

We were given the 2016 NAMI National and 2017 NAMI California Multicultural Outreach Awards. Assembly member Kansen Chu awarded us the 2017 Community Hero award. Senator Bob Wieckowski awarded us the 2018 Local Hero award, highlighting our work in the underserved Chinese community. In May 2019, the California Legislature Assembly recognized MHACC as the nonprofit of the year.

As recent as June this year, we are proud to be hosting the first Chinese American Mental Health Awareness Day in the USA. This history-making event demonstrated a high level of recognition from other community service providers and earned respect from the general public as well.

  • Is there a tax deduction for donations?
